A musician, composer and actress Amatus Sami-Karim is the wife of popular American actor mahershala ali since 2013. Though she's a big talent herself but her husband's fame always overshadow hers. Amatus father was jazz musician and Imam and she grew up on the Southside of Chicago with her Islamic family.

Her educational qualification was a nice one, she traveled to New York where studied at the Tisch School of Arts and later spent one year at Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Sami-Karim came to limelight after composing the soundtrack for Dominique Morrisseau’s stage play ‘Sunset Baby’ in 2012 – the Labyrinth Theatre Company production won an Obie in 2014.
